Though I want to visit Kumano,
it is too far to hike, and
mountains are too steep.
But if I ride a horse,
it won't be ascetic. |

Our couple, Emiko and I, wanted to visit the graveyard of my parents at
Miwasaki, Shingu City, Wakayama Pref. Miwasaki town is located along one
of the Kumano Ancient Pilgrimage Routes.
This opportunity including the visit to my parets' graveyard is thanks
to the sightseeing and hiking tour by Hankyu Trapics.
I found an appropriate tour passing by Shingu City and asked if we could
be parted away from the tour at around Hayatama Grand Shrine on the second
day.
They consented to my offer so that our couple decided to apply for the
tour as follows. |

I got up before 4:00 by the alarm clock on August 26. Emiko had already
washed her face.
28, no wind, but a little bit humid.
We left home at 4:45 a.m. In the dark, we walked to Shin-Urayasu Station
under the street lights.
We arrived at the meeting place in Tokyo Station just after 6:00. |

The New Bullet Train departed from Tokyo at 6F56 and arrived at Nagoya
Station at 8F46. Then we got on the sightseeing bus of Mie Traffic Co.
for Nara Park.
On the way we took lunch at the roadside restaurant near the hometown of
Matsuo Basho, a famous haiku poet in Edo period. |

Basho, after his pilgrimage of the chronicle "the Narrow Road to the Deep North", visited Ise Grand Shrine at the time of its rebuilding festival, and then headed to his hometown Iga-ueno not far from the shrine. It was in winter, 1689.
He suddenly met a scattered cold shower at Nagano Pass, covered by the
forest abundant in trees. He saw a monkey crouching on some branch. The
following is his poem then. |
